Important Topics For JEE Mains 2016 Maths

Maths section in JEE Main exam is considered to be tough than chemistry and physics. But there are students who score well in maths. And the secret behind them is they focus more on scoring topics.

For some students it’s really not feasible to get a grip in all the topics of maths and therefore they prefer doing some important topics through which they can score good marks. Even the toppers do multiple revision of the scoring topics.

If you don’t know about the important topics for JEE Mains 2016 maths then you are at correct place. I have shared the list of total nine topics which are the most important topics for JEE Mains 2016.

You can score decent marks by preparing only these topics. Out of these nine topics three of them are do or die topics. Do or die topics are the most important among all of them which carries majority of marks in JEE Main maths section.

Look at the cut off marks for JEE Advanced 2015. .

ST Equal to or more than 9
General-Pwd Equal to or more than 9
OBC-Pwd Equal to or more than 9
SC-Pwd Equal to or more than 9
ST-Pwd Equal to or more than 9

For general category JEE Advanced cut off marks is 17 which can easily be scored by doing only do or die topics. So here is the list of important topics for JEE Main 2016 maths section which you are waiting for.

I have also designed a table which tells you about the number of question asked in particular year from each and every topic that is shared below. Syllabus for JEE Main 2016 is also mentioned in front of every topic to ease your preparation.

Do or Die Topic: –

There are three do and die topics for JEE Main 2016 maths. These are must topics for any candidate who is preparing for JEE main exam as these topics carries a majority of marks. And it is also expected that JEE Main 2016 will also have majority of the question from these topics only.

Below I have shared the number of question asked in particular year from each and every do or die topic. You will get the idea about the weightage of marks each topic carries in JEE Main exam.

Number of question can vary from year to year from particular topic but these topics will always remain the prominent topics for scoring good marks. If you just want to clear the cut off then these topics are enough. Also syllabus of each and every topic is also provided below.

Chapter Name Year (20-
15 14 13 12 11 10 09 08 07
Coordinate Geometry 5 5 7 5 4 3 4 5 7
Integral Calculus 3 3 3 3 2 2 2 3 4
Complex Number and Quadratic Equation 2 3 3 2 2 2 3 3 1

1.) Coordinate Geometry: – The most important topic for jee main 2016 is coordinate geometry which carries a weightage minimum of 20 marks. What I think is that coordinate geometry is relatively easy than any other topic of mathematics. It requires understanding and practice. Practice a lot to become perfect in this topic and you can easily fetch 20 marks. Here is the syllabus for JEE Main 2016.

Cartesian system of rectangular co-ordinates in a plane, distance formula, section formula, locus and its equation, translation of axis, slope of a line, parallel an perpendicular lines, intercepts of a line on the coordinates axes.

Straight Lines:-

Various forms of equations of line, intersection of lines, angles between two lines, conditions for concurrence of three lines, distance of point from a line, equation of internal and external bisectors of angles between two lines, coordinates of centroid, orthocentre and circumcentre of a triangle, equation of family of lines passing through the point of intersection of two lines.

Circles, Conic sections:-

Standard form of equation of a circle, general form of the equation of a circle, its radius and center, equation of a circle when the end points of a diameter are given, points of intersection of a line and a circle with the center at the origin and condition for a line to be tangent to a circle, equation of the tangent. Sections of cones, equations of conic sections (parabola, ellipse and hyperbola) in standard forms, condition for y = mx+c to be a tangent and point(s) of tangency.

2.) Integral Calculus: – It is among the important topics for jee mains 2016 for maths section. You can see that minimum of three questions (12 marks) were asked from this topic. And in 2016 JEE Main you will also get minimum of three questions from this topic. So don’t leave this topic.

Intergral and anti-derivative. Fundamental integrals involving algebraic, trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic functions, Integration by substitution, by parts and by particla fractions, Integrations using trigonometric identities.

Evaluation of simple integrals of the type

Important Topics For JEE Mains 2016

Integral as a limit of a sun. Fundamental theorem of calculus. Properties of definite integrals. Evaluation of definite integrals, determining areas of the regions bounded by simple curves in standard form.

3.) Complex Number and Quadratic Equation: – It is also an important topic for scoring in JEE Main 2016 exam. The topic is also important for JEE advanced and other engineering competitive exam like BITSAT, WBJEE etc. And direct formula based questions are asked in BITSAT, WBJEE and other competitive exam which make this topic among the most important topics for jee main 2016. Find out the syllabus of complex number and quadratic equation from here.

Complex numbers as ordered pairs of reals, Representation of complex numbers in the form a+ib and their representation in a plane, Argand diagram, algebra of comple numbers, module and argument (or ampliture) of complex number, square root of a complex number, triangle inequality, Quadratic equations in real and complex number system and their solutions, Relation between roots and co-efficient, nature of roots, formation of quadratic equations with given roots.

Other Importance Topics: –

Apart from do or die topics there are some other topics which are scoring for JEE Main 2016 exam. And in order to get a good rank in JEE Main 2016 don’t miss these topics.

Chapter Name Year (20-
15 14 13 12 11 10 09 08 07

Arithmetic and Geometric progressions, insertion of arithmetic, geometric means between two given numbers. Relation between A.M. and G.M. Sum upto n terms of special series: Sn, Sn2, Sn3, Arithmetico-Geometric progression.

5.) Matrices and Determinants: – Matrices and Determinants is not only important for JEE Main exam but also a scoring topic for other engineering competitive exam. If you are planning to appear for other competitive exam then you will often find questions from this topic.

Matrices, algebra of matrices, types of matrices, determinants and matrices of order two and three. Properties of determinants, evaluation of determinants, area of triangles using determinants. Adjoint and evaluation of inverse of a sqquare matrix using determinants and elementary tranformations. Text of consistency and sollution of simultaneous linear equations in two or three variables using determinants and matrices.

6.) Statistics and Probability: – BITSAT, WBJEE and other competitive exams asks question from this topic. It is also important for JEE Main 2016. The topic needs your practice.

Measures of Dispersion

Probability

Probability of an event, addition and multiplication theorems of probability, Baye’s theorem, probability distribution of random variate, bernoulli trials and binomial distribution.

7.) Trigonometry: – Don’t forget to do this topic as JEE Main have questions related to inverse trigonometrical functions in the past.

Trigonometrical identities and equations. Trigonometrical functions. Inverse trigonometrical functions and their properties. Heights and Distances.

8.) Limits, Continuity and Differentiability: – It is quite difficult topic but scoring. Here is the syllabus for JEE Main 2016.

Real – valued functions, algebra of functions, polynomials, rational, trigonometric, logarithmic and exponential functions, inverse functions, graphs of simple functions. Limits, continuity and differentiability. Differentiation of the sum, difference, product and quotient of two functions. Differentiation of trigonometric, inverse trigonometric, logarithmic, exponential, composite and implicit functions, derivatives or order upto two.  Rolle’s and Lagrange’s mean value theorems. Application of derivatives, rate of change of quantities, monotonic – increasing and decreasing functions, maxima and minima of functions of one variable, tangents and normals.

9.) Three Dimensional Geometry: – Last important topic for jee main 2016 maths is three dimensional geometry. Other competitive exams frequently ask question from this topic which are totally formula based.
