IIT JEE Main 2016 Eligibility Criteria For Droppers

JEE Main 2016 Eligibility Criteria for Droppers

Joint Entrance Exam Main is among the popular engineering competitive exam in India. It is an all India common entrance exam which is conducted by CBSE for admission in various engineering colleges and courses all over the country.

Through JEE Main student can take admission in various IITs (Indian Institute of Technology), NITs (National Institutes of Technology), CFTIs (Central Funded Technical Institute) and IIEST Shibpur. But in order to get admission in IITs student have to secure a good rank (Cut Off rank) in JEE Advanced exam and in order to appear for JEE Advanced student must secure a rank below 1.5 lakh in JEE Main.

There are some good colleges like ISER’s, RGIPT, IISc and others which use the score of JEE Advanced for admission but they are not participating institute of central IIT JEE Advanced counselling. Every year more than 12 lakh students appear for JEE Main and only a handful of them get a seat in IITs, NITs or any good college.

The competitive is really very high. According to the rules and regulations a student can appear for JEE Main exam to a maximum of three times and for JEE Advanced to a maximum of two time consecutively.

Some students worked hard but did not make into IIT and many of them took a drop for a year to prepare again. Some students get confuse of their eligibility because of the fixed number of attempts for JEE Main and Advanced.

IIT JEE Main 2016 Eligibility Criteria for Droppers

JEE Main 2016 Eligibility Criteria for Droppers

Find out JEE Main 2016 Eligibility Criteria for Droppers. There are mainly four eligibility criteria for a dropper to appear for JEE Main. And these four criteria are also applicable for foreign students.

Class 12 Performance:-

First JEE Main 2016 Eligibility Criteria for Droppers is class 12 or equivalent exam pass percentage. After the AIEEE changed to JEE Main class 12th percentage is also included in deciding the cut off for admission in various colleges.

A candidate who passed class 12th or equivalent exam from a recognized board should fulfill the given below criteria. So here are the few points which candidate should take care before applying for IIT JEE Main 2016:-

  • Candidate must have PCM and passed the 12th class with PCM with minimum of 50% marks in the core subjects.
  • Candidates who have passed the 12th exam in the year 2013 or before are not eligible to appear in JEE Main 2016 no matter if you are dropper or not.
  • If candidate appeared for qualifying exam in 2013 but did not pass in the same year and later passed in 2014 are also not eligible for JEE Main 2016.
  • Candidates must have studied at least five subject in their class 12th.

Age Limit:-

Age limit is also among JEE Main 2016 Eligibility criteria for droppers. Date of Birth mentioned in the Secondary Education Board/University certificate will be considered as the DOB for candidate IIT JEE Main 2016 exam. Age limit for various categories are mentioned below:-

There are maximum of three attempts are allowed for JEE Main that too in consecutive years. If candidate appeared for JEE Main in 2014 then he/she can also appear for JEE Main 2016 but year of passing 12th class should be 2014. And a candidate who appeared for JEE Main 2015 is also eligible for JEE Main 2016.

Qualifying Year:-

Most of the candidates get confuse between Qualifying year and number of attempts. Candidates who have appeared for JEE Main earlier and again are going to appear for JEE Main 2016 should take care of the this  point.

  • As there are maximum of three attempts for JEE Main so candidate must have passed their 12th class examination or equivalent examination in the year 2014 or 2015 to become eligible for JEE Main 2016.

Any dropper candidates who have fulfilled all the above mentioned criteria can apply online. Online Application form for IIT JEE Main 2016 will be out in their first week of November 2015.

          • Hello Muskan
You must score minimum 75% marks in 12th class to appear for JEE Main next year. In my opinion, don’t take a drop rather get admission in any other good college and if you have learning attitude then you will surely get success. College doesn’t guarantee you success, its totally depends upon you. But still if you want to take a drop then give improvement exams and increase your score upto 75% and study for jee exam. This article will help you regarding improvement exams. http://engineeringfunday.com/jee-mains-rules-cbse-improvement-exam.html

  2. I have passed 12th boards in 2015 but want to give improvement now for PCM.. Is it necessary for me to give all five main subjects for appearing in jee mains in 2016.

    • Hello Aakshi Sharma
Student needs to give improvement exam in all five subjects to be eligible for JEE. For general, candidates can appear in one or more than one subject (s) as per his/her choice. Also, the improvement exam can be taken only in the successive year of passing Class XIIth exam.

  3. brother i had completed my 12th in 2015 from ISC board . I got 71% and i m dropper .please tell me should i give 12th exam again for good % or i should focus on mains

    • Hello Vinayak Pateria
I think its depends upon you to decide if you want to appear once again for 12th or not. Do one thing check out the previous year cut off along with percentage of marks in Boards and then take decision. And i think if you appear for 12th exam again then i am pretty sure it will boost your board percentage. Gud luck

  4. sir i got seat in iiit kanchipuram i joined here .but i want join in iit if iwrite jee another time is there any problem to my admission.plz reply sir

According to the guidelines a candidate must possess minimum 50% aggregate marks in PCM. If your aggregate percentage in PCM is 50% of above then you are eligible for JEE.

According to the rules and regulations a candidate who passed class 12th exam in the year 2013 or before are not eligible for JEE 2016 and if you pass the maths exam in 2016 then you have passed the 12th class in the year 2015 which is eligible year to appear for JEE 2016. So yes you are eligible for JEE.

  7. how much i have to score in jee mains 2016 to get nit raipur mech. , my board percantage is 71.40(cbse),i am of obc cat. and this is my second attempts

    • Hello Utkarsh
Last year closing rank for NIT Raipur Mechanical branch was 12136 if a candidate is from Home State and 4338 is a candidate is from Other State. There are various tools through which you can predict your rank according to your jee main marks and percentage in boards exam. Search for those you will definitely find idea about the minimum marks.

  8. I’m a 1st year student….if I appear in jee mains again…..can I get admission directly in second year in another college….or I have to repeat first year again if I secure good rank??

  9. Dear sir,
If I will not got addmission in IIT in 2016.So I will go in B.E. college and after pass jee(main+advanced) in 2017. So I can get addmission in IIT. Sir it is very confusion for me that can I chang b.e. college to IIT.

    • Hello Minesh
If you are unable to get into IIT in 2016 surely you can do B.E and appear for JEE 2017. And if you clear the exam in 2017 then you can take admission in IIT by leaving your B.E studies. Or else you can drop a year and prepare for JEE 2017.

  10. hello sir,

  11. hello, i had completed my +2 in 2014, and got 48% in PCM. Am i eligible for jee main?

    • Hello Rovil
According to the rules of JEE “a candidate must have PCM and passed the 12th class with PCM with a minimum of 50% marks in the core subjects.” So the overall percentage of PCM for eligibility is 50%. Unfortunately, you are not eligible for JEE Main.

  12. Hello sir..

  13. there is a candidate….. who appeared for jeemain last year through cbse board… but %was poor…. so this year he changed his board to JAC …. is he elligible for jeemain…..????

    • Hello Priyanshu Raj
Yup the candidate is eligible for JEE Main. Marks of JAC boards will be considered during counselling.

  14. I got low % in 2015 12th CBSE. So this year i dropped and gave improvement in all 5 subjects. So now to print admit card of jee main it asks my qualifying year. Is it 2015 or 2016.

    • Hello Archit
Your qualifying year is 2015 but according to JEE rules “Students have to mention in the JEE application form if they are appearing for CBSE Improvement Exam with ‘Y’ for yes or ‘N’ for no”.

  15. Sir maine 2016 ke liye form bhar diya hai aur admit card bhi download kar liya hai .
My question is k agar mai exam attempt na karu to kya attempt count hoga ?

    • Hello Pravin
Ha agar tum exam attempt na kro to tumhara attempt count hoga because tumne JEE Registration form fill kr diya hai.

  16. Sir,
Is it neccessary to give improvement in all 5 subjects to apply in jee… And is it our choice to decide which board marks will be taken to normalise jee rank. if i give improvemnt in only one subject then jee will take that score or not.?

    • Hello Aayush
According to the rules of JEE
*The candidates who is willing to appear in the improvement examination to improve the qualifying
examination marks, will have to appear in all the five subjects for improvement.
*If a candidate has passed Class 12th/ Equivalent qualifying examination from one state but appeared
for improvement from another state, his/her state code of eligibility will be from where he/she has originally
passed Class 12th/ Equivalent qualifying examination and not the state from where he/she has appeared for
      improvement.
According to the rules (mentioned above) you need to give improvement in all the 5 subjects.

  17. Ankit Kumar Sharma

Hello ! sir i am a student of cbse board uptill class 10th. And the result will be declared on 27th May 2016. I think i would get 9.0 CGPA . And now i am joining JAC board (Jharkhand) for 12th.

So, is my desision right of changing my board for getting more time for preparing for JEE MAINS 2018……

    • Hello Ankit
Its up to you. If you think that you have more time for your preparation then the decision is right. But make sure that you give your 100% during your preparation.

    • Hello Vikash
A candidate can attempt JEE Main for a maximum of 3 times and JEE Advance to a maximum of 2 times that too in consecutive year. sir my name is prashant and i want to ask that i pass 12th class in 2014-15 session and give mains exam and i was fail to cross the cutoff mark.sir i wnat to ask that should i drop one another year or search any private college.i really need ur recommendation.sir help me come out from this trap.

    • Hello Prashant
Many students come across this dilemma at the end. If you ask me then i suggest you not to drop another year for the sake of IIT or NIT rather take admission in some good college. If you have talent then you will get many opportunities in future to prove yourself. There is no rule that only IITian can make big.
      Gud luck for you future.
